The Clerk to the Worshipful Company of Coopers

Salary: £65,000

Founded by Royal Charter in 1501, The Worshipful Company of Coopers is one of the oldest livery companies of the City of London. Originally a craft association responsible for maintaining professional standards and the welfare of its members, the Coopers’ Company has evolved into being a charitable, educational, civic and ceremonial institution  which takes an active role in supporting the corporate governance of the City of London and the Lord Mayor. The Company maintains a strong link with its original craft through its support of practising coopers and those professions that use the cask. The Company has maintained a Hall since 1547 in the heart of the City of London and now resides in Devonshire Square.  

The Company is governed by an elected Court with the Clerk acting as its CEO with responsibility for the continuity, direction and day-to-day management of the Company, its Hall, its charities and its social life.The Company is seeking a committed individual to fill this position with excellent administration, finance and organisational skills with a demonstrable track record of leadership, achievement and success in their chosen career.

 

The successful applicant will have experience of organising events, be computer literate, tenacious, pragmatic and unflappable, and will have the personality to interact effectively with people at all levels. He or she will be an energetic and focused individual who is prepared to work irregular hours, including evenings, and will need to have good business acumen and be effective when engaging with the Court, the Company, City institutions and the wider Livery world.  Building sustainable relationships both inside and outside the Company will be central to success.
